  • Unopposed
  • Community-based

We seek 8 talented residents to join our program annually!

Our residency is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.  The Program is an innovative, forward-thinking 3-year residency in family medicine.  The Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program was the first accredited Family Medicine residency program in New York State to be established since 1995.

The PartnersThree of New York State’s top academic, medical and clinical establishments combined resources to build this program and help address the great shortage of primary care, and particularly, family medicine physicians.  This extraordinary partnership of Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, Phelps Hospital and Open Door Family Medical Centers has integrated many of the most forward-thinking insights and clinical advances into the core curriculum.

The great benefits and advantages now possible through cutting-edge information technology and many of the effective principles developed through the establishment of patient centered medical homes are fully integrated into the educational experience.

Innovation: Training in a medical system that values and operates at the leading edge of technology and the Patient-Centered Medical Home model to deliver high quality care.

Patient Centric Care: The opportunity for residents to explore and lead a patient-centered medical home with hands-on training at a nationally recognized, community-based health center where patients are at the heart of the care team, engaged as active partners in their health.

Academic & Clinical Excellence: You will be training under the supervision of scores of exceptionally trained and prestigious medical clinicians across the full range of medical disciplines.  The program offers clinical rotations with faculty who are committed, full-time, board-certified physicians.  Residents work one-on-one with attending physicians on clinical rotations including OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, as well as other specialties/subspecialties.

A Holistic Approach: Behavioral science training experience is incorporated into the program, equipping residents with skills to interact sensitively with patients, recognizing, assessing, and initiating treatment for a range of patient needs.

This vibrant residency program is guided by a culture of excellence where all constituencies work together effectively to provide comprehensive, compassionate service and education.  There is a truly remarkable culture of support at every level of this residency.  The healthcare leaders and superb medical minds you’ll be training under will provide you with a profound experience in the world of medicine as they share their genius and decades of superlative clinical care.

The Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program is located in Sleepy Hollow, in suburban Westchester County, New York, some 30 miles north of New York City.  The hospital is steps away from the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.  The magnificent Hudson River provides unparalleled vistas from a virtually infinite number of perspectives from the hospital itself as well as the picturesque communities that line the Hudson Valley.
