Dr. shantie harkisoon, program director

Welcome

My dream has long been to educate generations of future family physician leaders and I feel fortunate for the countless residents, alumni, faculty and program partners who share this dream and strive to realize our mission every day.

Our residents are an enthusiastic, well-rounded, hard-working and collegial bunch. This in turn defines the culture of our growing alumni community which is made up of dynamic family doctors who possess leadership skills, ambition, a passion for service and the tools needed to support a lifetime of resiliency and well-being.

Phelps’ program is proudly community-based, unopposed and university-affiliated. Our residents enjoy the immense resources of Northwell Health, the personable and supportive atmosphere of Phelps Hospital and the opportunity to serve in our award-winning FQHC Open Door (just 5 minutes down the road from Phelps).

Scenic Sleepy Hollow, New York is accessible to many outdoor sites, restaurants, history and traditions (our famous Halloween season cannot be missed!) and is 45 minutes from New York City by train and car.

Each resident who pursues training at Phelps has a unique path to family medicine; a unique story for how their passion for this work was ignited. I invite you to share your story with us and to consider making Phelps’ program a part of it.

Sincerely,

Shantie Harkisoon, MD

Congratulations to Dr. Yiran Yang, recipient of Phelps' Northwell Teacher of the Year award this year! Residents nominated Dr. Yang, a Phelps hospitalist, for the honor and presented her with a plaque as an expression of their gratitude for her teaching.

Yesterday's splinting workshop was informative and fun as always! Thank you to Drs. Seebacher, Planka and Housington for leading and teaching and to Candice Huggins, RN, and our chiefs for organizing the session.... https://www.facebook.com/phelpsresidency/posts/2351766584861376
